Terms of Use
Last updated: 25 July 2026
1. About these terms
CaHk (the “Platform”) is operated by SEEM SOCIAL INC.(“we”, “us”). You can reach us at [email protected].
By registering an account, browsing, or otherwise using the Platform, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please stop using the Platform. These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, form the entire agreement between you and us.
2. Eligibility
- You must be at least 16 years old. If you are under 18, you need a parent or guardian’s consent first.
- You must register with an email domain the Platform accepts (see section 3).
- One account per person. Accounts may not be transferred, sold, or lent.
- If your account has been permanently banned, you may not register another.
3. Registration and email domains
Registration is gated: we accept only email domains we have approved — for example Canadian and Hong Kong post-secondary institutions, plus organisational domains reviewed individually by an administrator. The gate exists to protect the quality of the community and is not a judgement about any individual. We may add to or remove from the approved list at any time without notice.
You must provide accurate information. Do not impersonate anyone, invent an identity, or register using someone else’s email address.
4. Account security
Keep your password secure. You are responsible for everything that happens under your account. We recommend enabling two-factor authentication. If you believe your account has been used without your permission, change your password immediately and tell us.
5. What the Platform is, and changes to it
The Platform is a text-based discussion community offering categorised boards, posting and replying, search, notifications, content translation, and member interactions, in Traditional Chinese (Hong Kong) and English (Canada). It is currently provided free of charge.
We may add, change, suspend, or discontinue any feature at any time. The Platform requires an internet connection and is not designed for offline use. We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free.
6. Where the Platform is available
The Platform primarily serves users in Canada and is restricted to connections originating in Canada and the United States. We may change the available regions at any time. You must not use technical means to circumvent this restriction.
7. Your content and the licence you grant
You are responsible for everything you post (text, images, and other material — “your content”), and you keep ownership of it.
You grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, sublicensable licence to use, copy, transmit, display, and reformat your content for the purposes of operating, displaying, promoting, backing up, and archiving the Platform. This licence survives deletion of your account so that content you posted can continue to be displayed on the Platform without your name, and as necessary for backups, legal records, and material others have already quoted.
You represent that you hold all rights necessary to post your content and that it infringes no third party’s rights.
8. Content is permanent
Think before you post. The Platform is designed as follows, and by using it you accept this:
- Posts and replies cannot be edited once published. There is no edit feature.
- Content becomes part of the discussion once posted and cannot be deleted individually. If you later delete your account, your threads, replies, and username remain — the account is marked deleted.
- A thread holds at most 1,001 floors. Once full it accepts no further replies, and the community may continue in a numbered next part.
- Where others have quoted your content, that quotation may still appear.
9. Prohibited content and conduct
The following six categories are strictly prohibited, with no warning and no graduated response: once found, the content is removed immediately and the account responsible is permanently disabled.
- promotion, sale, or demonstrated use of tobacco or drugs;
- sexual content or nudity;
- content that glorifies, promotes, or incites violence;
- promotion, sale, or instructional use of weapons;
- simulated gambling, or the promotion of gambling;
- information you know to be false (fake news).
You must also not post the following, or use the Platform to do the following:
- content that breaks Canadian law, including hate propaganda, intimidation, uttering threats, and criminal harassment under the Criminal Code;
- non-consensual distribution of intimate images, or threats to distribute them;
- doxxing — publishing someone’s personal information without consent, including real name, address, phone number, workplace, or identity documents;
- harassment, bullying, or personal attacks against individuals or groups, and discriminatory speech based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, or disability;
- pornographic, sexually violent, or extremely violent material; any sexualised content involving minors results in an immediate permanent ban and, where the law requires it, a report to law enforcement;
- information you know to be false and that is likely to cause harm;
- spam, flooding, unapproved advertising or promotion, affiliate links, pyramid schemes, or fraud;
- malware, phishing links, or attempts to breach, disrupt, or excessively access the Platform or other members’ accounts;
- using multiple accounts, bots, or coordinated activity to manipulate votes, rankings, discussion, or apparent consensus;
- content infringing anyone’s copyright, trade marks, or other intellectual property;
- reselling or sublicensing the Platform, or scraping its content or features at scale for commercial purposes.
10. Community culture
The Platform aims to be a reasoned, constructive, and respectful place to talk. We expect disagreement to be argued on the merits rather than through insults, labelling, or personal attacks. Even where a post breaks none of the specific rules above, moderators may act if it is plainly intended to provoke, belittle, or degrade the discussion.
11. Moderation and appeals
Moderators may remove content, lock, pin, or recategorise threads, and suspend or permanently disable accounts. Every moderation action is logged, and a log entry cannot afterwards be changed or removed.
We act proportionately, generally escalating from a warning, to content removal, to a temporary suspension, to a permanent ban. Some breaches receive no warning and no escalation: any pornographic content is removed as soon as it is found, and the account responsible is permanently disabled immediately. Sexualised content involving minors and credible threats of violence are treated the same way, and are reported to law enforcement where the law requires it. If you believe an action was wrong, email [email protected] within 30 days with the relevant link. We will review it, but we cannot guarantee a reversal.
12. Reporting and blocking
You can report a post or a member, and you can block a member to hide their content. A reporter’s identity is never disclosed to the person reported. Malicious or bulk false reporting is itself a breach of these Terms.
13. Votes and awards
Upvotes, downvotes, and awards such as the flower and the maple leaf are community features only. They carry no monetary value, cannot be bought, exchanged, or transferred, and we may adjust or withdraw them at any time.
14. Privacy and personal information
We handle personal information in accordance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). See our Privacy Policy for details.
Please note that what you post on the Platform is public and may be seen by anyone, including people who are not registered and search engines. We identify members to one another only by a randomly generated public ID; we never show your email address or any internal identifier to other members.
15. Copyright complaints (notice-and-notice)
Canada operates a notice-and-notice regime under sections 41.25 to 41.27 of the Copyright Act. If you believe content on the Platform infringes your copyright, email [email protected] with:
- your name and contact details;
- identification of the work and a statement that you hold the rights;
- the exact link to the allegedly infringing content;
- details of the claimed infringement and when it occurred.
We will forward your notice to the relevant member and retain records as the Act requires. Note that under this regime we are not legally obliged to remove content merely because a notice was received; however, if the content also breaches these Terms, we may act under section 11. Knowingly false claims may expose you to liability.
16. Third-party links and advertising
Members or the Platform may link to third-party sites and content. We neither control nor endorse them, and your dealings with third parties are your own responsibility. The Platform may display advertising or promotional material; unless we say otherwise, displaying an advertisement is not an endorsement.
17. Notices and communications
We will contact you by email, in-app notification, or push notification — including about account security, service changes, and moderation. Essential account-related messages cannot be unsubscribed from. Push notifications can be turned off on your device or in settings.
18. Suspension, termination, and deleting your account
You may stop using the Platform at any time, and you can delete your account in settings. When you delete your account we erase your identifying information and prevent further sign-in; content you previously posted and your username remain, and the account is marked deleted. Some data may be retained for a limited period where legal obligations, security records, or backups require it.
We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms, or to protect other members and the Platform. Sections that by their nature should survive — including 7, 19, 20, 21, and 22 — continue to apply after termination.
19. Disclaimers
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Platform is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Content posted by members does not represent our views. Information on the Platform — including discussion of legal, medical, financial, immigration, or employment matters — is personal opinion, not professional advice, and you should not act on it alone.
20. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, punitive, or consequential losses, including loss of revenue, goodwill, or data. Our total liability for any claim is limited to CAD $100.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, or affects rights you have under consumer protection legislation that cannot be waived.
21. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify us for reasonable losses and costs we incur from third-party claims arising out of your content, your use of the Platform, or your breach of these Terms.
22. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable there. You agree to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Ontario. If you are a consumer resident in another Canadian province, you keep any non-waivable rights your local law gives you.
We would rather resolve things directly — please email [email protected] first.
23. Changes to these terms
We may revise these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced on the Platform and the “last updated” date above will change. Continuing to use the Platform after a change takes effect means you accept the revised Terms.
24. General
If any provision of these Terms is held invalid, the rest remain in force. A failure to enforce a right is not a waiver of it. You may not assign your rights under these Terms without our written consent.
25. Language
These Terms are provided in Traditional Chinese and English. If the two versions differ, the English version prevails.
